Airtel 5G Rolls Out in Parts of Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The telecom giant Bharti Airtel becomes the first to launch 5G services in the Northeastern part of the country. The company has made this service available in a few select locations of the city as of now and plans to expand further by the end of the year, making it one of the 12 cities in the country to start this service.

Rajnish Verma, Head of Bharti Airtel Assam and North-East mentioned, "I am thrilled to announce the launch of Airtel 5G Plus in Guwahati. Airtel customers can now experience ultrafast network and enjoy speeds upto 20-30 times faster than the current 4G speeds. We are in the process of lighting up the entire city which will allow customers to enjoy superfast access to High-definition video streaming, gaming, multiple chatting, instant uploading of photos and more."

Bharti Airtel, which is one of the top telecom service providers in the country started rolling out its 5G services last month. With just a handful of cities chosen to run the services on an experimental basis, the speeds being offered currently are very good. Guwahati is the first city in the Northeastern region to receive this network from Airtel. Airtel subscribers across the city received automated messages regarding the availability of the 5G network.

According to reports, the 5G Plus network is currently available in only a few parts of the city. These areas include G S Road, Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Dispur College, Ganeshguri, Christian Basti, Sree Nagar, Zoo Road, Lachit Nagar, Ulubari, Bhangagarh and Beltola regions.

Customers in these parts of the city can now use Airtel's 5G services on 4G prepaid plans. They need to have a 5G-enabled smartphone which supports Airtel's 5G NSA and a 4G SIM. Airtel is now deploying 5G NSA which is supported by most of the existing 5G phones. But the latest iPhones and Google Pixels are not ready to use that service yet.

Initially starting with eight cities across the country, the company has expanded the service to four more cities. The cities are Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Guwahati, Panipat, Pune, Nagpur, Varanasi, and Gurugram.
