CALIFORNIA (US): Use of generative artificial intelligence technology is being planned by Google in a bid to automate advertising and ad-supported services, according to internal documents assessed by a major media outlet.
Several advertising-related artificial intelligence (AI) projects, which is likely to help advertisers use large language models (LLMs) to create and deliver ads, have been given the go-ahead by the search engine giant. LLMs are a type of AI that can generate text, translate languages, and even write different kinds of creative content.
PaLM 2, a highly advanced language model capable of generating human-like responses, was introduced by Google recently. A vast amount of text data has been used to train it. Use of PaLM 2 is also being considered by Google to provide tools for advertisers to create their own media assets, while suggesting video ideas to YouTube creators.
The trend of AI chatbot is rapidly gaining ground in the tech industry and attracting attention from investors on Wall Street.
Significantly, Google is not the only company that is mulling over the use of AI for advertising purposes. Similar projects have been taken up by Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft. The public launch of Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT last year raised concerns about the future of internet search and Google is particularly motivated because of that.
That Google has it major focus on AI this year was evident from its I/O 2023 developer conference. The search engine company announced several AI-concerted efforts such integration of AI into search, AI-powered Workspace, AI enhancements for Photos, a new large language model and others.
Reportedly, the company is also planning an AI-supported customer support strategy to be used across its more than 100 products including Google Play Store, Gmail, Android Search and Maps. Clear and straightforward responses can be offered by the automated chatbots. The company intends to delve into deeper investigations through the chatbot, before it proposes an advertising strategy to the customer.
