At a time when BJP is holding peace rallies across the state, the student bodies and several other indigenous organizations are holding sit-in demonstration to stage their protest against Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 in Biswanath.
The protest was conducted under the aegis of Gorehagir Kamala Kanta Natya Samaj.
During the protest, the leaders of the organizations slammed BJP-led Government and their alleged authoritarian regime.
It may be mentioned that since the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 was passed by the Parliament of India on 11 December 2019. It amended the Citizenship Act of 1955 by providing a path to Indian citizenship for Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian religious minorities that had fled persecution from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan before December 2014.
