KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi granted bail as NIA fails to submit charge-sheet

Akhil Gogoi, leader of the peasants' organisation Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity, has been granted bail by the NIA special court in Guwahati on Tuesday. The KMSS leader was arrested in December, 2019 when the anti-CAA protest spread across Assam.

Later, the Assam police handed him over to the NIA. The central agency arrested him for his alleged involvement with the Maoists. However, the NIA failed to submit charge-sheet in the court within 90 days of the arrest. On this ground the NIA special judge Justice Pranjal Das granted bail to the KMSS leader on a surety of Rs.30 thousand, hearing a bail petition filed by Gogoi's wife Gitasree Tamuly.
