Namghar Samannay Mancha staged protest against Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 at Golaghat Town on Saturday.
Demanding scrapping of the contentious Citizenship Act from Assam, the activists of the organization raised their voice with devotional songs with playing Assamese musical instruments like Doba, Khul, Nagara and Taal.
Since past one month, several sections of the society including the senior citizens of Golaghat under the aegis of Golaghat AASU walked down the street to protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 at Golaghat town.
It may be mentioned that since the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 was passed by the Parliament of India on 11 December 2019. It amended the Citizenship Act of 1955 by providing a path to Indian citizenship for Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian religious minorities that had fled persecution from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan before December 2014.
