36th 'Abhiruchi Sports Day' observed in Guwahati

The 36th Abhiruchi Sports Day is being observed across Assam on Tuesday.

Arjun awardee from Assam Bhogeswar Baruah's birthday is celebrated on 3 September every year in Assam as "Abhiruchi Sports Day" as a mark of tribute to the sportsman.

Baruah was the first athlete from Assam who won gold in an 800-metre running event of 1966 Asian Games.

This year's Abhiruchi Sports Day has been organized centrally in Guwahati with an annual mass jogging event starting from Chandmari flyover to Nehru Stadium.
