8th annual LGBT Queer Pride walk takes place in Guwahati

The eighth edition of the annual LGBT Queer Pride walk was taken out on Sunday in Guwahati with participants coming from different parts.

Over 200 gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender participants gathered in the Dighalipukhuri area and took out a walk to celebrate their identity and speak out against prejudices and oppression that are meted out to the community on a daily basis.

Singer Abhishruti Bezbaruah in support of the community also joined the Pride Walk.

The aim of the Pride Walk was to spread awareness in society about the community. The participants also urged the administration to focus on the welfare of the community.

Speaking to the media Abhishruti Bezbaruah said, "We are all human beings and we should give a helping hand to the LGBT community. We can see the unity among them. The Assam government has taken a revolutionary step by giving reservation to this community in the Assam Public Service Commission."
