
NEW DELHI: Carlos Alcaraz is set to headline the field at the Barcelona Open to played at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona in April.
The Spaniard will makes his first appearance at the clay court event after securing back-to-back trophies in 2022 and 2023.
Norway’s Casper Ruud will also be a part of the tournament in a bid to defend his title after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final last year. Veterans Kei Nishikori and Stan Wawrinka will also compete for the trophy after receiving wild cards with the latter making his first appearance at the Open since 2009.
Home favourite Pablo Carreno Busta completes the trio of wild cards in Barcelona. The 33-year-old fell to Alcaraz in the championship match in 2022 and will return for the first time since suffering an elbow injury that sidelined him for almost a year and a half.
The competition will take place from April 14-20. Agencies
