Asian Wrestling Championships: Antim marks international return with bronze, Manisha reached final

Amman: World Championships bronze medallist Antim Panghal marked her return to international competition by securing a bronze medal in women’s 53kg at the Asian Wrestling Championships in Amman, Jordan, on Friday.

Manisha also ensured another medal for India by reaching the 62kg final.

Featuring in her first competition after the Paris Olympics, Antim beat Chinese Jin Zhang 10-6 before being outclassed 10-0 by Japan’s 55kg World champion Moe Kiyooka.

In the bronze medal match, Antim trounced Chinese Taipei’s Meng Hsuan Hsieh 10-0. Manisha got past Kazakhstan’s Tynys Dubek 11-0, Korea’s Hanbit Lee ‘by fall’ and Kyrgyzstan’s Kalmira Bilimbek 5-1 to set up a title clash with Ok Ju Kim of North Korea.

On Thursday night, Paris Olympian Reetika Hooda (76kg) claimed a silver medal while Muskan (59kg) and Mansi Lather (68kg) picked up a bronze apiece.

In a keenly-fought summit clash against Kyrgyzstan’s Aiperi Medet Kyzy, Reetika, a World under-23 champion in 2023, fought back from 2-0 down to go 6-2 up but could not hold on to her lead in the last 30 seconds to lose 7-6.

World under-17 bronze medallist Muskan beat Mongolia’s Altjin Togtokh 4-0 and World under-17 champion Mansi Lather outsmarted Kazakh Irina Kazyulina 12-2 bronze medals. Agencies
