Guwahati: Assam suffered another defeat in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Cricket tournament and this time against Jharkhand in Kolkata on Thursday. Jharkhand won the tie by 51 runs and opened their account in the competition with four points.

Elected to bat, Jharkhand piled up huge total 233-3 in their 20 overs courtesy to a nice batting from Virat Singh who remained not out on 103. He got good support from Saurabh Tiwari (57).

Assam although chased well but finally managed to score 182-7 in their stipulated 20 overs. Riyan Parag (67) once again played a good knock and scored half century with the help of one boundary and seven sixes. Opener Pallav Kumar Das (46, 4X1, 6X5) was the other major contributor.

With this defeat Assam are now placed in fifth place in Six-team group with four points. Earlier they wopn against Hyderabad by two runs and lost to Tamil Nadu by 10 wickets. In the next game tomorrow Assam will face host Bengal.
