Both the teams have won their respective first match in the Super-12. The Australia defeated South Africa in the first match, while the Sri Lankan defeated Bangladesh by 5 wickets in their first match.

Against Bangladesh, Sri Lankan players such as Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa showed a splendid performance with the bat while chasing a target of 172 runs.
