Mumbai: In a tragic development, former Australian cricketer-turned-commentator Dean Jones has passed away after a heart attack in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Jones was 59.

As per reports in the media, Jones was part of the Star Sports commentary team and was in a bio-secure bubble in a seven-star hotel in Mumbai.

Jones has been an active cricket analyst for many years and was signed up to do off-tube commentary on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, which is being held in the UAE.

The former Australian cricketer is known in India for his popular show called 'Prof Deano', which was an extremely popular cricket analysis show on NDTV.

Jones has commented in several leagues as well as international matches across the world and is known for his frank and forthright opinions and analysis.

Born in Melbourne, Dean Jones played 52 Test matches scoring 3631 runs at an average of 46.55. With a 216 as his best score, Jones scored 11 centuries and was an important member of Allan Border's famous Aussie side known its brand of attacking cricket.

Jones shone even brighter in the shorter format, accumulating 6068 runs with the help of seven centuries and 46 fifties in 164 ODIs.

Jones was one of the first Australian batsmen considered a limited-overs specialist and is known for his powerful and attacking batting.
