Barak Legends climb to second with commanding 8-wicket win in Assam Premier League

Guwahati: Barak Legends produced a clinical all-round performance to defeat Charaideo Sunrisers by 8 wickets in the inaugural Assam Premier League at the ACA Stadium on Friday. The victory, their third in four matches, lifted the Legends to second place in the points table.

After restricting Charaideo Sunrisers to 124 all out in 20 overs, Barak Legends comfortably chased down the target in 18.4 overs, losing just two wickets.

The chase began with an early setback as in-form opener Aman Singh departed for 6 in the opening over, dismissed by Dibakar Johri. Bishal Saha and Barunjyoti Malakar steadied the innings with a 39-run partnership before Saha was run out for 34 off 29 balls. Experienced campaigner Sibsankar Roy then took charge with an aggressive unbeaten knock of 42 from 32 deliveries, striking three fours and two sixes. At the other end, Barunjyoti anchored the innings with a composed unbeaten 37 off 47 balls as the pair guided Barak Legends to victory with eight balls to spare.

Earlier, Charaideo Sunrisers struggled after being asked to bat first. They lost Hrishikesh Tamuli (5), Sumit Ghadigaonkar (1) and Protush Bora (8) during the powerplay and failed to recover as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Opener Pradyun Saikia top-scored with 33 off 22 balls, while Himanshu Saraswat remained unbeaten on 31 from 23 deliveries, including three sixes, helping the side post 124 before being bowled out in the final over.

Mohit Thakur starred with the ball for Barak Legends, claiming 3 for 13. Abdul Ajij Kuraishi (2/19) and Harsh Kumar (2/25) provided excellent support with two wickets apiece.
