GUWAHATI: Prithvi Shaw managed to score massive 379 runs in 382 balls for Maharastra in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Assam. The match is underway at the Amingaon Cricket Ground on the edge of Guwahati city.
The star batsman for the Maharastra Ranji team, Prithvi Shaw posted the second-highest individual score in the history of the tournament. The record for the highest number of runs by an individual remains with Bhausaheb Nimbalkar who scored an unbeaten 443 runs. He was playing for Maharastra against Kathiawar back in December 1948. Although he now maintains the record of having the second-highest score in the tournament, he narrowly missed the chance at the rare 400 runs limit as Riyan Parag, leg spinner from Assam managed to get him out by LBW in the last over before lunch.
Prithvi Shaw who did not manage to make any significant contribution in the first four matches of the ongoing tournament scored only 13, 6, 19, 4, 68, 35 and 15 runs in his previous innings managed to spring back into form in this match against the Assam team. With this form, he is a strong contender to have his name included in the playing eleven for the upcoming test series against New Zealand and Australia in India.
The fall of his wicket also ended the 401-run partnership with the captain of Maharastra Ajinkya Rahane for the third wicket. Apart from Rohit Sharma and Virendra Sehwag, he is the only player to score a century in T20, 200 in List A cricket and 300 in first-class cricket. Prithvi Shaw has played five test matches, six ODI matches and one T20 International matches with the blue jersey with his last appearance in July 2021 in a Sri Lanka tour. With this brilliant performance, BCCI will definitely look into his reintroduction to the national team.
