New York: On Sunday, Daniil Medvedev achieved a record-breaking historic win after defeating World No 1 Tennis Player Novak Djokovic 6-4,6-4,6-4 in the US Open final.

With this win, Medvedev has become the first Russian male tennis player to win a Grand Slam title after Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Marat Safin.

Yevgeny Kafelnikov had won the French Open in 1996 and the Australian Open in 1999, while Marat Safin had won the 2005 US Open and the 2005 Australian Open titles.

After the match, Medvedev apologized to Djokovic and his fans in a post-match presentation, for preventing the top player from creating history.

However, Djokovic is still at the same level as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal with 20 grand slam titles even after missing out on his fourth US Open title.

Reportedly, Novak Djokovic was not at his best on Sunday after he entered the final 27-0 in 2021 but could not achieve 28-0 in the final match.

Djokovic had earlier defeated Medvedev in the 2021 Australian Open in February and added titles on clay at the French Open in June and on grass in July.

As per the news, Djokovic was in a foul mood during his second set on Sunday and had smashed his racquet on the floor of the court to express his frustration after losing a point in the fourth game.

Medvedev bagged his maiden Grad Slam title after winning the straight sets sealing a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory.
