Birmingham: England set a unique record as it posted a mammoth 400-run total in the first One-Day International against West Indies at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Thursday. The host registered the highest team total in ODIs without an individual hundred, going past South Africa’s 392 against Pakistan back in 2007.
Four England batters—Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell—notched up half-centuries, with Bethell top-scoring with a 53-ball 82. In another great example of team work, England’s top seven all registered 30-plus scores, marking the first time seven batters had scored 30 or more in an ODI innings.
England’s 400/8 in 50 overs is also the second-highest team total at Edgbaston, and is only topped by the host’s 408/9 against New Zealand in 2015. Agencies
