Estudiantes extend unbeaten run in Argentine football league

BUENOS AIRES: Lucas Rodriguez and Fabian Noguera scored first-half goals as Estudiantes secured a 2-0 home win over Platense in Argentina's Primera Division on Monday. Rodriguez fired a shot into the top left corner after Leonard Godoy's cross and Noguera doubled the lead with a header following Agustin Rogel's corner.

Estudiantes, unbeaten in their past five outings, are second in the 13-team Group A standings, two points behind Colon with one match day remaining. Platense are 12th, 11 points further back.

In Monday's only other fixture, Sarmiento were held to a goalless home draw by Gimnasia in Group B.

The top four teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. Colon and Estudiantes are already guaranteed a place in the last eight from Group A while Velez Sarsfield and Boca Juniors have secured a berth in Group B. Agencies
