GUWAHATI: Continuing their strong performance on the Malaysia tour, the Assam senior women’s cricket team clinched their third consecutive victory, defeating Malaysia XI by 170 runs in Kuala Lumpur on Friday. The commanding win also ensured Assam’s series victory, with two matches still remaining.
The standout performers for Assam were Gayatri Gurung and Nirupama Baro. Opting to bat first, Assam posted a challenging total of 247/7 in their 50 overs. Gayatri top-scored with an impressive unbeaten 86 runs from 121 balls. She received solid support from Khushi Sarma, who contributed a well-made 52. Shivani Bishnoi (34) and Jyoti Devi (24) also made valuable contributions.
The second wicket partnership between Gayatri and Khushi, which added a crucial 98 runs for the second wicket, laid the foundation for a commanding total.
Later, Nirupama Baro led the way with the ball, taking 5 wickets for just 20 runs, effectively ending any hopes Malaysia XI had of a chase. The side bowled out 70 runs batting 33.2 overs. Rashmi Dey and Priyanka Kalita also impressed with the ball, each picking up two wickets.
For Malaysia, Elsa Hunter fought lone battle for the team and contributed 25 runs on the board.
