Guwahati India Open Chess Tournament gets underway

The 5th edition of the Guwahati India Open Chess Tournament 2021 was inaugurated today at South Point School by Mridul Kumar Mahanta, IAS, in the presence of Krishnanjan Chanda, Principal, South Point School, Anjan Jyoti Das, Vice President, North East Small Finance Bank, Biswajit Bharadwaj, International Arbiter, Pranjt Dutta, former national boxer.

GUWAHATI: The 5th edition of the Guwahati India Open Chess Tournament 2021 was inaugurated today at South Point School by Mridul Kumar Mahanta, IAS, in the presence of Krishnanjan Chanda, Principal, South Point School, Anjan Jyoti Das, Vice President, North East Small Finance Bank, Biswajit Bharadwaj, International Arbiter, Pranjt Dutta, former national boxer. The event is organized every year celebrating the birthday of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The tournament which is an annual event of Assam Chess Club is one of the biggest chess events organized in India every year and the biggest chess tournament in Northeast India.

Keeping in view the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the event is being organized both offline & online this year and has attracted a large number of participants from across the state and country.

Promising junior players of Assam Master Dhrupad Kashyap and Mayank Chakraborty (both students of South Point School) were also felicitated in the Opening ceremony. This is stated in a release.
