Income Tax Department felicitates Indian Football icon Bhaichung Bhutia

GUWAHATI: Indian Football icon Bhaichung Bhutia was felicitated by JVD Langstieh, Pr. Commissioner of Income Tax, Central, Guwahati with traditional gamochha and bouquet in a function held in the city today.

Welcoming the Padma Shri Awardee footballer in the function Sukhveer Chaudhary, Commissioner of Income tax, Guwahati said that felicitation of Bhaichung Bhutia was a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of it's people, culture and achievements. Today's programme was a part of their endeavour to honour countrymen who excelled in their respective fields and have made India proud.

Chaudhary said, Income Tax Department has been playing a pivotal role to garner revenue for the Government, which are then spent for development of infrastructure, providing social welfare measures, building schools, colleges and universities, hospitals, bridges and dams, roads, stadiums, sport infrastructure etc. The department has also been taking revolutionary steps to ensure ease of doing business and ease of compliance as well as to provide best tax payers' services by introducing modern technology.

Chaudhary also expressed that Bhutia's contribution to the nation through his performance in football is well known to all and he has been the torch bearer of Indian football in the international arena for a pretty long time. He brought much glory and fame for India thereby taking India to a new height in the international arena, His contribution cannot be summarised in few lines.

He also added that Bhutia would definitely inspire the young generation and would motivate them to take active part in Sports which would help in nation building.

After felicitation, an interaction program was held with the Indian football icon which was moderated by G G Kamei, Commissioner of Income tax (Admin and TPS) Guwahati. Children of different schools and sports academies took active part and interacted with Bhutia. The iconic footballer advised them to choose sports to build their career only if they are able to earn a berth in a good team before attaining the age of 18. If it is not possible then the players must give first priority to their studies.

He also said, "School should support the young players who have the talent and are doing well in their age group competitions.''

Later students of different schools were given awards for their meritorious performance in Sports by the Department.
