KUALA LUMPUR: In a dominant display, India won the Women's U-19 T20 World Cup for the second successive year by defeating South Africa by nine wickets in the final at Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur, on Sunday. Chasing a target of just 83 runs, India completed the chase comfortably with 52 balls remaining, concluding their innings at 84 for one in only 11.2 overs.

The stand-out performer for India was Gongadi Trisha, who remained unbeaten on 44 off 33 balls. Vice-captain Sanika Chalke chipped in with a quickfire 26 not out from 22 deliveries, finishing the game with a powerful shot to the square-leg boundary, which set off jubilant celebrations among the young Indian players clad in the Tricolour.

On the bowling front, the left-arm spinner Aayushi Shukla was the star with figures of 4-2-9-2. Trisha proved herself to be a good all-rounder as she also took three wickets to add more impact on the match.

South Africa, who opted to bat first, struggled with their innings, with Mieke van Voorst top-scoring at 23 runs. The team faced a batting collapse, with only four players reaching double figures.

Gongadi Trisha was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for her exceptional all-round display, while her overall tournament performance, which included 309 runs and seven wickets, earned her the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award. India previously won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2023, defeating England by seven wickets in the final.
