New Delhi: India has defeated Nepal with 3-0 goals in SAFF Championship which has taken place in Male.

In the India vs Nepal match, Sunil Chhetri (49th minute), Suresh Singh (50th) and Sahal Abdul Samad (90th) were the goal scorers for India in this historic game. Chhetri's goal in the final game helped him level with Lionel Messi on 80 international goals. Notably, this is the Indian football team's first title victory under head coach Igor Stimac. India dominated possession in the first-half but they failed to score any goal. However, captain Chhetri put India ahead minutes into the second half and even before Nepal could settle down, Suresh made it 2-0.

Sahal Abdul Samad made it 3-0 in the India vs Nepal football match when he dribbled past a few defenders in the 90th minute.

Earlier on 12 October an 82nd-minute strike by Sunil Chhetri handed India a 1-0 win over Nepal in the SAFF Championship 2021 Group Stage, at the National Stadium here. With this win, India broke the sequence of draws and are now in the third spot on the group table with five points, one behind Maldives and Nepal, both of whom have six points aprice. India started off on the front foot late on Sunday evening, winning their first corner of the match as early as in the third minute. The Nepali defence was up to the task though, as they cleared the ball that was swung in by Brandon Fernandes.

Sports minister Anurag Thakur on Saturday congratulated Indian football team for winning SAFF Championship for the record eighth time. "INDIA wins its 8th #SAFFChampionships2021 Title @chetrisunil11 scripts history as he equals Lionel Messi's record of making 80 goals in International Men's; Goal scorers: S Chettri, S Singh, S A Samad; Congratulations to the #BlueTigers!"
