GUWAHATI: The Indian Lawn Bowls team created a history on Sunday with all the 10 members of the contingent returning with medals for the first time ever from the 14th Asian Lawn Bowls Championships that concluded at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia on Sunday. The Indian contingent bagged a gold, three silver and a bronze medal. Birmingham Commonwealth Games gold medallist women’s team of Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayan Moni Saikia and Rupa Rani Tirkey bagged the gold defeating home side Malaysia in the final on Thursday.
All the four have also won a silver medal each in the Asian Championships. While Lovely and Nayan Moni bagged the silver in women’s pairs, Pinki and Rupa bagged the silver in women’s triples partnering Assam girl Tania Choudhury.
Debutant Putul Sonowal of Assam bagged the men’s singles silver, while Mridul Borgohain, also of Assam, bagged a bronze medal going down to home side Malaysia 12-14 in the men’s fours semifinals. The other members of the India team were Dinesh Kumar, Chandan Kumar Singh and Sunil Bahadur.
