TOKYO: The curtains came down on India's table tennis campaign in the women's singles with the exit of Manika Batra and Sutirtha Mukherjee in straight games at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Monday. Manika was blown away in an 11-8, 11-2, 11-5 and 11-7 loss to 10th seed Sofia Polcanova of Austria in the third round. Earlier, Sutirtha lost to veteran paddler Fu Yu of Portugal 11-3, 11-3, 11-5 and 11-5 in the second round.

The losses of Manika and Sutirtha brought an end to India's participation in the women's singles event in table tennis. IANS
