International archer-turned-coach Jayantilal Nanoma dies in accident

JAIPUR: A former international archer-turned-coach Jayantilal Nanoma died in a road mishap at Varda in Rajasthan's Dungapur district, early on Monday morning, confirmed police officials.

Nanoma (35) was rushed to a Sagwara hospital in a critical condition. Later, he was shifted to Udaipur's Geetanjali hospital where he succumbed to injuries at around 3.30 a.m. on Monday, confirmed SHO Varda police station, Sagar Chand.

Nanoma was accompanied by a PTI teacher who was admitted to Sagwara hospital. His condition is said to be stable, Sagar Chand said, adding that the reason for the accident is not clear.

Nanoma has many gold and silver medals to his credit in national and international tournaments. He was also an Asia Cup and Asian Grand Prix medallist in compound individual and team events in 2010.

Nanoma also won Arjun Award, Maharana Pratap Award, as well as Guru Dronacharya Award and was a District Sports Officer in Dungarpur. As a coach, he produced several talented archers from Rajasthan. IANSĀ
