GUWAHATI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed a fine of Rs. 12 lakhs on Rajasthan Royals interim captain Riyan Parag for maintaining a slow over-rate during their high-octane IPL match against the Chennai Super Kings at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati's Barsapara yesterday.

This happens to be the first offense committed by the franchise and stand-in captain Riyan Parag was charged under Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct.

The imposition of this penalty comes in the backdrop of the Rajasthan Royals' first victory in IPL 2025, bouncing back from two consecutive losses under Riyan's captaincy in their first two matches.

Earlier yesterday, Rajasthan Royals finally got off the mark by defeating Chennai Super Kings in a narrow six-run victory to open their account for this season.

Nitish Rana produced a stellar performance with the bat, smashing the ball out of the park in his quickfire innings of 81 runs off just 36 balls, which included ten boundaries and five maximums.

Skipper Riyan Parag anchored the Royals' innings, registering 37 runs off 28 balls, with the help of two fours and two sixes.

Sri Lankan spin wizard Wanindu Hasaranga delivered fatal blows with the ball, picking up four crucial wickets conceding just 35 runs, helping his side cross the finish line.
