DUBAI: Indian pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah was conferred with the prestigious International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricketer of the Year Award for 2024 at a ceremony held in Dubai on Sunday. He was also named the ICC T20I Cricketer of the Year and was included in both the ICC Test and T20I Teams of the Year.

Bumrah reached Dubai on Sunday and received awards from ICC Chairman Jay Shah. His excellent performances in 2024 earned him the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year title and the Sir Garfield Sobers Award. In Test cricket, he took 71 wickets with an outstanding average of 14.92.

The 30-year-old was an important part of India's T20 World Cup win in the USA and the West Indies. He took 15 wickets and was named 'Player of the Tournament' for his outstanding performance. With an average of 8.26 and an economy rate of 4.17, he played a big role in India's victory.

However, in a major setback for Team India, Bumrah was ruled out of the upcoming Champions Trophy due to a back injury sustained during India’s Test tour of Australia earlier this year. Despite being named in India’s preliminary 15-member squad, the BCCI selectors opted to exclude him as a precautionary measure. Young pacer Harshit Rana has been named as his replacement for the tournament.

Ahead of India's highly anticipated Champions Trophy clash against Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday, Bumrah met and interacted with the Indian team during their warm-up session. His presence is expected to boost the team’s morale. Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar, who was at the venue, emphasized the significance of Bumrah’s visit, stating that it would uplift the team’s spirits before the crucial encounter.
