LONDON: Joe Root on Friday broke the record for most catches by an outfielder in Test cricket, going past Rahul Dravid, during the second day of the third Test between England and India at Lord’s.

Dravid had completed 210 catches in Tests, and Root surpassed the mark when he collected a difficult grab at first slip, removing Karun Nair on 40.

Mahela Jayawardene, Steve Smith and Jacques Kallis are the only other fielders with 200 catches or more in the longest format. Agencies
