GUWAHATI: The 3rd edition of Kailash Nath Sarma Memorial All India Open Inter School Online children Chess Championship got under way at Snehabandhan, in the city today.

The competition was inaugurated by by Mreenalini Devi, Vice President, Axom Xahitya Xabha in presence of B Kalyan Chakravarthy, Principal Secretary, Education Department.

Speaking on the occasion Mreenalini, wife of Kailash Nath Sarma, expressed her opinion that the children as the future human resource of our country need to improve their mental abilities and in this regard playing chess is very important. B Kalyan Chakravarthy announced that as per the initiative of Assam Chess Club and recommendation in the new education policy the Government has already taken steps to introduce the game of chess which has immense scholastic benefits for students in all schools of Assam. Around 300 participants from across the country are participating in this 3-day tournament which carries scholarships of Rs 2,25,000.
