Guwahati: India's National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has launched its own digital mobile application to educate athletes on the consumption of banned substances that enhance performance (commonly termed as 'doping).

It's a virtual learning platform in the form of a digital mobile application to educate athletes on the consumption of banned substances that are meant to enhance performance. The timing of the launch of the initiative coincides with the return of live sports.

Kiren Rijiju, who is the Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports in India, during the launch, stated that it is a significant step for Indian sport. He emphasized the effort the Agency has been taking towards clean sports and explained how creating awareness and providing relevant, accessible information to athletes is the first step in that direction.

The app also goes a step further and informs users if a specific commonly prescribed medicine contains any substance that is prohibited by the NADA. This will help the coaches procure medicines that can be consumed by athletes, in case they are unwell.

Rijiju also stated that since the app enables athletes to check for themselves the list of prohibited substances and therefore, they won't have to rely on anyone else for assistance.

The app provides a feasible communication platform for NADA and athletes. Further, the app also has the feature to enable doping control officers to schedule a test based on the availability of an athlete, making the process expedient.

The app will oil the smooth functioning engine of the anti-doping body as it assists them not only to speed up the process of identifying cases, but also to perform the dual role of athlete awareness. For Android devices, the NADA India app is currently available for download on Google Play.
