GUWAHATI: Assam emerged victorious in the 1st North East Little Masters Trophy (Under-14), defeating Tripura by 47 runs in the final held at the ACA Cricket Academy Ground in Fulung on Wednesday. The tournament, aimed at nurturing grassroots cricket in the Northeast, was organised by the Assam Cricket Association (ACA).
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Assam posted a competitive total of 186 for 8 in their allotted 40 overs. Priyam Kundu held the innings together with an unbeaten 37, well-supported by Tanveer Islam, who contributed 35. Among Tripura’s bowlers, Subhajit Kuri (2/29) and Bihan Das (2/33) were the standout performers.
In reply, Tripura managed 139 before being bowled out in 36.5 overs. Abhoy Deb led the resistance with a fighting 39, while Rihan Aktar scored 25 and Sriman Debnath added 20. Assam’s bowlers maintained a tight grip throughout the innings, with Manash Pratim Barman claiming 3 for 14, Ayush Pandey taking 3 for 37, and Mazidul Islam chipping in with 2 for 17. Ayush Pandey’s impactful spell earned him the Player of the Match award.
The closing ceremony saw the presence of several dignitaries, including BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, BCCI Apex Council Member Mamon Majumdar, ACA Secretary Tridib Konwar, Tournament Director Romen Dutta, ACA Treasurer Chiranjit Langthasa, and representatives from cricket associations of Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Mizoram. Commending ACA’s efforts, Saikia praised the initiative, expressing hope that such tournaments would inspire and develop young cricketing talent across the Northeast region.
