Assam: CM inaugurates sports rehabilitation centre in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma ceremonially inaugurated the High Performance Sports Training and Rehab Centre, at the CHD building in Kokrajhar on Tuesday in the presence of CEM of BTC Pramod Boro, Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam Nandita Gorlosa, Minister UG Brahma, Director (Exploration & Development) and Chairman & Managing Director (I/C), Oil India Ltd Saloma Yomdo, Managing Director, Numaligarh Refinery Ltd Bhaskar Jyoti Phukon, and Olympic gold medallist and founder of Abhinav Futuristics Pvt Ltd Abhinav Bindra.

       Developed at a cost of Rs 25.70 crore with an additional Rs 2.60 crore allocated for execution supervision, the centre is a joint initiative by the Department of Sports & Youth Welfare, Assam, CSRAA, Oil India Ltd, Numaligarh Refinery Ltd, and Abhinav Futuristics Pvt. Ltd , a leader in bringing Olympic-grade sports science technology to India. This is the 3rd high performance sports training and rehabilitation centre in Assam.

        The high performance sports training and rehabilitation centre, Kokrajhar, is a specialized facility designed to help athletes and individuals recover from sports-related injuries, improve performance and prevent future injuries. The lab is equipped with advanced technology and staffed by experts in sports medicine, physical therapy, and rehabilitation. The key features of the rehabilitation centre include injury assessment and diagnosis with advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to assess and diagnose sports-related injuries, customized rehabilitation programmes tailored to individual needs, goals and sports-specific requirements, and exercise therapy with a range of exercises and interventions to improve strength, flexibility, range of motion, and functional ability.

        In his keynote address, CEM of BTC Pramod Boro said that having a high performance sports training and rehabilitation centre in Kokrajhar had begun a new journey in the sporting field in India. He said that BTR had been known to all for its sporting potential.

        In his address, the Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that a sports training and rehabilitation centre was first set up in Guwahati to provide treatment, correction of positioning in scientific manner and the second centre was set up in Jorhat. He said that Kokrajhar was chosen as it is a sporting hub in Lower Assam. He said that the Oil India Limited extended support in setting up of this rehabilitation centre. 25,000 sessions have been conducted in Guwahati and Jorhat, giving appreciable results in different fields. He said that there had been no state in India having three high performance sports training and rehabilitation centres before Assam which he said was the outcome of Khel Maharan involving over 23 lakhs players across Assam. He also said that residential hostels in different cities and towns of Assam will be set up to facilitate sports students. He further said that tenders had been invited for construction of a big stadium in Kokrajhar worth Rs 125 crore and that the foundation stone would be laid soon after the process of tender is over. Kokrajhar centre is the latest centre with the latest technology, he added.

 On the occasion, Chief Minister Sarma released the ‘Assam Sports Odyssey’.
