Guwahati: DBI Sports Club (DBISC) secured their place in the final of the 70th Bordoloi Trophy Football Championship (Kamrup Metro Leg) with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Gauhati Town Club via sudden death. The match, played at the SAI Sports Complex, ended goalless in regulation time, followed by a 3-3 draw in the tie-breaker, leading to a dramatic sudden death showdown.
The semi-final encounter saw an evenly contested battle, with both teams creating several scoring opportunities but failing to capitalize. Inaccurate final passes and off-target shots kept the scoreline blank, while stellar goalkeeping performances from both the sides further ensured that neither side could break the deadlock in regulation time.
DBISC had a golden opportunity to clinch the match in the 76th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Klephas Ronghang was fouled inside the box. However, Manjit Taro’s shot was brilliantly saved by Gauhati Town Club’s goalkeeper Akash Swargiyary, keeping his team in contention.
The penalty shootout added to the excitement. DBISC took an early 2-0 lead as Bihuram Baro and Klephas Ronghang converted their shots. Gauhati Town Club faltered under pressure, missing their first two attempts but recovered by scoring their next three through Mukul Singh, Rittwik Pathak, and Sudem Narzary. Meanwhile, DBISC’s Ankurjyoti Rajbongshi and Jitu Ahmed missed their penalties, adding tension to the tie-breaker. However, Manjit Taro, who had missed the earlier penalty in regulation time, made no mistake this time, ensuring DBISC stayed in the contest.
In sudden death, Rohi Taygam and Shingainlong Sohbar netted for DBISC, while Rahul Pradhan converted for Gauhati Town Club. However, DBISC goalkeeper Manoj Barman emerged as the hero, saving Ruhit Boro’s decisive shot and securing his team’s place in the final.
DBISC will now face the winner of second semi final which will be held on Tuesday at the same venue between Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club and Assam Police.
