GUWAHATI: Assam needed 285 runs on the final day to beat Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy tie at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara on Wednesday. Chasing 297 runs to win on Tuesday host finished the day III 12-0 in their second innings. Earlier visitors declared their second innings 365-9 with a lead of 296 runs.

All three results are possible in the game but if Assam want to win this game or finish it as a draw the side have to do sensible batting on the final day.

Maharashtra started the day’s proceeding from their overnight score 106-2. Opener J Pande (130, 4X13) scored century while V More (52) and S Bachhav (51) scored half centuries in the innings which guided Maharashtra to a huge total.

Ranjeet Mali picked up five wickets for 123 and other two pacers of the team Arup Das and Mukhtar Hussain shared two wickets each between them. With these two wickets Arup became the highest wicket taker for Assam in the first class cricket.

Assam faced six overs in the second innings and scored 12-0. Opener Subham Mandal remained not out on 7 and his partner Rahul Hazarika giving him accompany on 1.
