GUWAHATI: The Assam Olympic Association (AOA) will construct an Olympic Bhawan in Guwahati. The announcement came in the Annual General Meeting of the association held in the city today.

The meeting also proposed to arrange air tickets for the state contingent which will travel to Goa to take part in the next National Games scheduled to be held in 2021.

The Annual General Meeting of the AOA was held at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium and all the top officials of present committee including Chief Minister and the president of AOA Sarbananda Sonowal attended it.

Addressing the meeting Sonowal said, "Assam Olympic Association should be in look out for discovering more sports talents in Assam even from far flung areas and should lend hands to hone their sporting talents and make the state a potential name in the arena of sports.

He added: "Assam has the population of 3.5 crore and Assam Olympic Association should be on its toes to discover sporting talents to take Assam to the zenith of its sporting excellence."

Sonowal also announced that an Olympic Bhawan to be set up in Guwahati which will be an integrated building accommodating all other State sports Association's offices.

It may be mentioned here that the Assam Olympic Association is already in touch with the concern office regarding the plot for the proposed Olympic Bhawan. Once the land is allotted the construction will begin. The Association has also urged the government to provide fund for the construction of this Bhawan.

Chief Minister Sonowal on the occasion also launched a website of Assam Olympic Association.

Apart from Sonowal the other key officials present in the meeting are Vice President and Minister for Guwahati Development Department Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Vice President and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Pijush Hazarika, Vice President and Member of Rajya Sabha Bhubaneswar Kalita, Vice President Ritubaran Sarma, General Secretary Lakhya Konwar and Treasurer Tapan Kumar Das.

Key proposals/decisions taken in the meeting:

*Arrangement of air tickets for the 2021 Goa National Games contingent

*Start Grassroot Olympic from Panchayat to District Level from January next year. Government already sectioned necessery funds for this event.

*Provisional affiliation to four association-Assam Traditional Sports and Dragon Boat Racing Association, ITF Tang Soo Do Sport Association of Assam, Assam yoga Association and Assam Bodybuilders and Fitness Association.

*State and District Sports Association to submit yearly activity reports to AOA before the next Annual General Meeting.
