GUWAHATI: A remarkable unbeaten 105-run partnership between Denish Das and Saahil Jain on fifth-wicket propelled Assam to a six-wicket victory over Manipur in their penultimate group league match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at Jaipur today. Both Denish and Saahil remained not out scoring half-century.

After electing to bat, Manipur struggled to build momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals and ultimately being bowled out for 162 on the final ball of their innings. Key contributions came from LM Keishangbam (36), C Mehul (27), and Rex Rajkumar (21).

Among Assam’s bowlers, Avinov Choudhury delivered an impressive performance with figures of 3 for 25. He was well-supported by Mukhtar Hussain (2 for 40) and Darshan Rajbongshi (2 for 18).

Assam’s chase began shakily as they found themselves at 58 for 4 in 14 overs. However, the partnership between Saahil Jain and Denish Das steadied the innings. Their composed approach ensured Assam reached the target in 36.5 overs with six wickets in hand. Saahil scored a patient 54 off 74 balls, featuring six boundaries and a six, while Denish remained unbeaten on 55 off 77 balls, striking five boundaries.

With six rounds completed, Assam is placed seventh in Group A of the eight-team league, with a total of eight points.
