GUWAHATI: Assam Football Association (AFA) has announced its squad for the 38th National Games, scheduled to take place in Uttarakhand from January 28. The 22-member squad features two goalkeepers, nine defenders, five midfielders, and six forwards. Assam, placed in Group A, will face Goa, Uttarakhand, and Mizoram in the league stage. Group B comprises Services, Kerala, Manipur, and Delhi. Assam's opening match will be against Goa on January 30, the first day of the football competition.
AFA Secretary Sangrang Brahma expressed confidence in the team’s potential, recalling Assam's silver in the 1999 National Games and gold in the 2007 edition held in the state. "We hope the team can replicate those achievements," he remarked.
Veteran footballer and AFA Brand Ambassador Jewel Bay, who is appointed mentor of the squad and earlier played a key role in Assam's past victories, urged the players to give their all on the field and fight till the final whistle.
The media briefing was also attended by AFA Treasurer Hiren Gogoi, Head Coach Maneswar Musahari, Goalkeeping Coach Anjan Gohain, and Team Manager Raju Boro. Squad: Goal-keepers: Birkhang Daimary, Gonesh Boro. Defenders: Danswrang Basumatary, Didwm Hazowary, Tupu Brahma, Nabin Rabha, Manabir Basumatary, Bibung Narzary, Samrat Abhinav Saikia, Kapil Boro, Bilson Daimari. Midfielders: Pragyan Gogoi, Sudeepta Konwar, Timothi Narzary, Rishiraj Boruah, Situ Basumatary. Forwards: Jwmgbla Brahma, Lalhminghlu Vankal, Bishnu Bordoloi, Akrang Narzary, Dipu Mirdha and Milan Basumatary
