GUWAHATI: Betkuchi High School, Guwahati, emerged champions of the NN Singha U-17 Inter-District Girls Football Tournament, edging past Baruahola High School from Tinsukia 6-5 (via sudden death) in a well contested final held at Nehru Stadium today.
With both teams locked in a goalless draw at the end of regulation time, the match was decided through a tense sudden-death shootout, where Betkuchi held their nerve to claim the title.
Dolly Gogoi from Baruahola High School was adjudged the Best Player of the tournament for her outstanding performance throughout the competition.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Ankur Bharali, Director of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, along with former national volleyball player Amba Saikia, Assam Football Association treasurer Hiren Gogoi, and Bishnuram Nunisha, Secretary of the Assam Sepak Takraw Association.
With this victory, Betkuchi High School will now represent Assam in the prestigious Subroto Cup Football Tournament later this year.
