GUWAHATI: The fate of the domestic cricket season 2020-21 is likely to be decided when the members of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will assemble for the virtual Apex Council meeting. The meeting would be held this week.

Due to COVID-19 all the sports events were suspended in the country from March. The situation surrounding the pandemic forced the BCCI to shift the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in the UAE. There was news that BCCI may not host domestic season this year.

However it is learnt that BCCI is trying its best to host at least some of the domestic tournaments including Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy if the situation permits. A discussion in this regard would be held in the forthcoming meeting and a final decision also likely to be taken in it.

It may be mentioned here that Assam Cricket Association earlier decided to begin training camp for the forthcoming domestic season in September. However the association was forced to postpone the camp after it witnessed increasing number of COVID-19 cases on a daily basis.
