GUWAHATI: The Jaidip Mukerjea Tennis Academy is all set to host a Junior Elite Tennis Camp in Guwahati under the banner of "Revival of Indian Tennis", aiming to provide modern techniques and professional training to budding tennis players from the region. Scheduled to begin on July 21, the week-long camp will take place at the NETF courts in the city and will feature 17 players in the U-16 age group, including 7 from Assam.
Addressing a media conference, legendary Indian tennis player Jaidip Mukerjea, the head of the Academy, emphasized the region's untapped talent and the importance of such camps in helping young players elevate their game. “We know there is good talent in the region, and this type of camp will help the players improve their level of performance,” Mukerjea said.
The camp will be conducted under the expert supervision of Asian and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Somdev Devvarman and former Indian Davis Cup star and national number one Prajnesh Gunneswaran. In addition to on-court training, the camp will focus on essential aspects such as mental toughness, tactical understanding, and nutrition.
He also expressed appreciation for the support extended by the Assam Government and the All Assam Tennis Association in facilitating the camp.
The media briefing was attended by Sharmin Mukerjea (Director) and Rupinder Singh (Marketing Director) of the Jaidip Mukerjee Tennis Academy. Assam players selected for the camp are Kabyanjali Hazarika, Arnavi Debnath, Sanskriti Borah, Chandogya T Pathak, Parthiv Kalita, Anirudh Bora and Nibras K Hussain.
