DIBRUGARH: The Equestrian Federation of Assam is conducting a coaching camp for senior riders of the state in Dibrugarh. The weeklong camp is being conducted by Robert Hutcheson from Australia.
Riders from the Mounted Contingent of Assam Police and other senior riders from the state are participating. A total of fifteen horses and riders are in the camp. The focus of training is on Dressage and Jumping.
The camp is a part of the ongoing sports development programme of the Equestrian Federation of Assam, as a part of which coaches and trainers are invited from time to time to enhance the skills of our equestrian athletes.
This has resulted in the state having a sizable pool of young and talented riders. It may be of interest to note that the Annual State Championships, which was initiated in the year 2021 at DPS Numaligarh, is now a regular feature running up to a full three-day event, due to the growing number of riders every year. This has been possible because of increased interest in horse riding amongst the students of participating schools, such as, Assam Valley School, DPS Numaligarh, Royal Global School, etc.
The Assam Police Mounted Contingent, which has been a part of the founding constituent of the Equestrian movement of Assam, has also recently shown noticeable improvement in horse and rider quality.
Hutcheson, a level three international coach, was particularly appreciative of the renewed enthusiasm that he noticed amongst the participants of the State Police. SK Barua, President, Equestrian Federation of Assam, who was personally present at the camp, was hopeful that such training programmes will not only improve our talent base but also provide the much needed exposure to our athletes.
Siddhartha Sharma, who is representing the North-East region in the Equestrian Federation of India, has expressed his satisfaction of the continued effort of the Equestrian Federation of Assam in hosting such camps for the benefit of the state riders.
