Gauhati Press Club (GPC) defeat United Media Group to clinch Inter-Media Football Championship title

GUWAHATI: Gauhati Press Club (GPC) lifted the Harendra Nath Baruah Memorial Inter-Media Football Championship title by defeating United Media Group 2-1(1-0) in the final at Nehru Stadium here on Thursday. The match was decided through sudden death after both regulation time and the tie-breaker ended in a stalemate.

Gauhati Press Club, reached the final after edging out Prasar Bharati with a solitary goal in the semifinal, created numerous scoring chances. However, United Media Group, who entered the final by upsetting defending champions Assam Sports Journalists Association with a single-goal victory, stood firm. Both teams scored once during the tie-breaker, but Gauhati Press Club converted in sudden death to clinch the title.

Kishore Talukdar, the veteran goalkeeper of Gauhati Press Club, was deservedly honored as the Player of the Tournament for his outstanding goalkeeping performances throughout the championship.
