Grand Master Vasquez Schroeder Rodrigo takes sole lead in Chess Tournament

GUWAHATI: Grand Master Vasquez Schroeder Rodrigo of Chile leads with 6 points after the end of the sixth round in the 3rd Guwahati India Open International Rating Chess Tournament in the city today.

He is followed by a group of 6 players- Grand Master Sriram Jha, Koustav Chatterjee, International Master Sayantan Das, International Master Ramnathan Balasubramaniam, International Master Dhulipalla Bala Chandra Prasad, Rajib Dhar and Panta Sumit of Nepal on 5.5 points each. However with still four more rounds to go, the championship is open to all the leading players and it will be interesting to see if the Chilean Grandmaster can live up to his top billing and claim the championship and pocket the one lakh cash award.
