GUWAHATI: Gauhati Town Club registered a thumping 108-run victory over Navarang Club in the GTC Men’s Summer Challenge T20 Trophy at Judges Field today. The highlight of the match was a brilliant unbeaten century by Sumit Kashyap, who powered his team to a formidable total.
After being invited to bat first, Gauhati Town Club posted a commanding 216 for 3 in their allotted 20 overs. Sumit Kashyap stole the show with an unbeaten 112 off just 70 balls, which included six fours and nine sixes. He received solid support from Saahil Jain, who contributed 55 runs, hitting four boundaries and four sixes.
In response, Navarang Club struggled to build partnerships and could only manage 108 for 9 in their 20 overs. Manjeet Deka (32) and Ram Kishan Sharma (31) were the only batters to offer some resistance. For Gauhati Town Club, Devraj Sharma, Sumit Kashyap, and Nishchay Sharma picked up two wickets each to seal the win.
In the day’s other match, 91 Yards Club continued their winning momentum with a 33-run victory in a low-scoring contest against Navajyoti Club. Batting first, 91 Yards Club were bowled out for just 103 in 19.2 overs, with Danish Ahmed top-scoring with 34. For Navajyoti, Dharani Rabha (3-19) and Chanakya Sarma (3-22) were the pick of the bowlers.
However, Navajyoti Club faltered in the chase and were bundled out for 70 in 16.1 overs. Reshabh Dipak (3-6) and Akshay Kumar Deka (3-12) starred with the ball, claiming three wickets each to hand their team a comfortable win.
