GUWAHATI: The 7th edition of the Ayodhana International FIDE Rating Chess Tournament began on Tuesday at the auditorium of Assam down town University. A total of 340 players from across the country are competing in the six-day event, which offers a prize pool of Rs 4 lakh. The tournament is being organized by the Chess Players Parents’ Forum. The opening ceremony saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Bandana Dutta, Head of the Department of Studies, Assam down town University; Mukuta Deka and Rajib Dhar, president and secretary of the All Assam Chess Association respectively; and Arjuna Awardee Nayanmoni Saikia, among others.
