GUWAHATI: The first-ever Kaziranga Chess Carnival was held in Kaziranga with the participation of 161 competitors. The one-day tournament took place on Sunday at Kaziranga, featuring three categories, Under-10, Under-15 and Open.
In the Open category, Choram Rahul Singh emerged as the winner. He received a cash prize of Rs 25,000, along with a trophy and a certificate. Pallab Dutta and Neelabh Jyoti Borthakur secured second and third positions respectively.
In the Under-10 category, Arjit Aloy Hazarika, Abhyudoy Lahkar and Delisha Ahmed Zilani won the first, second and third prizes, respectively. In the Under-15 category, Mugdha Keot, Arunabh Bharalua and Abhishek Bardoloi claimed the top three prizes.
The top 10 players from both the Under-10 and Under-15 categories received scholarships totaling Rs 2 lakh. Mugdha Keot was declared the Best Player of the tournament, while Raktotpal Gogoi received the award for being the youngest participant. Raktotpal was just 6 years old.
The competition was organized by the Aaghun Foundation in collaboration with Assam Chess Club. Abhijit Gogoi, founder and director of Aaghun Foundation, stated that the one-day Kaziranga Chess Carnival was organized as the first step toward hosting a world-class annual chess tournament in Kaziranga.
