Maynak Chakraborty Continues to Trail by Half Point After Round 8 Draw in Guwahati Chess Tournament

Top seed Maynak Chakraborty remains half a point behind the leader after being held to a draw by Samyak Dharewa in Round 8 of the Guwahati India Open International Rating Chess Tournament.

GUWAHATI: International Master and top seed of the tournament Maynak Chakraborty is placed in second position after he was held to a draw yet again in round eight by Samyak Dharewa of west Bengal in a keenly contested match in the Guwahati India Open International Rating Chess Tournament at the South Point School premises on Sunday. Both the players decided to play safe and agreed for a draw after 33 moves. With this result Samayak of West Bengal leads the tournament with 7.5 points after 8 rounds.

International master Mayank Chakraborty of Assam,  International master Vikramaditya Kulkarni of Maharashtra ,International master Neelash Saha, Bivor Adak and  Arpan Das, all from  West Bengal,  shared the second position on seven points each.  However with two more rounds remaining to be played all the players in the top have an equal chance of winning the championship.
