GUWAHATI: Mohammedan Sporting Club of Kolkata clinched 65th Bordoloi Trophy soccer title defeating OILFC 3-1 in a well-contested final held at the Nehru Stadium here today. The winner was leading by a solitary goal in the lemon break.

Although the response from the crowd was not so good today it didn’t dampen the spirit of the players. The first half was dominated by Duliajan outfit should score at least two goals in the first 45 minutes of the game. However, Mohammedan Sporting played dominating soccer in the second half.

Mohammedan, who were mostly busy in their midfield, made three or four raids to the opponent goal and one such attack gave them the lead. The match was 26th minutes old when Chrales Atcha received the ball and he didn’t make any mistake to put it into the net. OILFC continued to play good soccer thereafter also and made a series of attacks into the opponent goal but failed to convert a single into a goal.

In the second half Mohammedan, however, looked more disciplined and understanding among the players was also better. The side scored two more goals in that half and the credit of both the goals should go to Philip Adjah. On both occasions, he made some beautiful footwork inside the box of OILFC before score beating the opponent goalkeeper. Adjah scored his first goal in the 65th minutes and second one just two minutes later.

OILFC returned one through Sirandeep Marak just before three minutes of the final whistle.

This is Mohammedan SC’s 6th overall Bordoloi Trophy title and first since 1991. Mohammedan SC received cash award of Rs 3 lakh while OILFC collected a purse of Rs 2 lakh. Laltu Mondal of Mohammedan Sporting received the best goalkeeper award while his teammates Philip Adjah bagged ASJA best player award.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was present in the final and he was introduced to the players of both the teams and match officials before the state of the game.
