GUWAHATI: Guwahati and NFRSA asserted their dominance on the opening day of the Nuruddin Senior Inter-District Cricket Tournament semi-finals, held in Guwahati on Tuesday. Both teams are poised to take first-innings leads.

At Judges Field, Guwahati faced Tezpur in the first semi-final. Opting to bowl first, Guwahati made early inroads thanks to a sensational bowling display by Avinav Choudhury, who picked up 6 wickets for just 22 runs. He was well-supported by Rohit Singh, who claimed 4 for 21, as Tezpur were bundled out for 126.

For Tezpur, Gaurav Saikia top-scored with a valiant 49 off 73 deliveries, including five boundaries and two sixes. Abhijit Bhadra chipped in with 20 runs, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to provide significant resistance. In reply, Guwahati ended the day strongly at 73 without loss. Subham Mandal led the charge with an unbeaten 53 off 54 balls (10 fours), while Ronit Akhter remained not out on 19. Guwahati now trail by just 53 runs with all 10 wickets intact.

Meanwhile, in the second semi-final at Nehru Stadium, NFRSA kept Kokrajhar under tight control. After being invited to bat first, Kokrajhar were bowled out for 99 in their first innings. Affan Ahmed (28) and Samrat Biswas (21) were the only batters to offer any resistance, but lacked support from the rest of the lineup. NFRSA's bowling ttack was led by Abhilash Gogoi and Jacky Ali, who took three wickets each. In response, NFRSA reached 66 for 3 by stumps. Sidhartha Moitra and Kirti Azad Yadav contributed 23 runs apiece, while Sib Sankar Roy (13) and Sumit Kashyap (5) remained unbeaten at the close of play. NFRSA are just 34 runs short of securing the first-innings lead.
