NAGAON: Oil India Football Club, the defending champion, once again entered the final of the 76th Independence Day Cup Prize Money Football Tournament, organized by the Nagaon Sports Association, at the Nurul Amin Stadium on Friday.
In the first semi-final, Oil India Football Club defeated Anushilani, a team from Kolkata, 4-3 in the tiebreaker after the match ended goalless in the stipulated time.
Both teams played an attacking game from the very beginning, making the match exciting, but neither team could score in the stipulated time. However, the Oil India team kept the opposing team busy with their repeated attacks, although they could not capitalise several a slew of opportunities.
In the tiebreaker, Tupu Brahma, Mondila Rongmei, Changsan Saikia, and Akrang Narzary of the Oil India team scored goals, while Milan Basumatary’s shot was blocked by the opposing team’s goalkeeper, Bibhash Pandit. On the other hand, Bijoy Karmakar, Amiyo Adhikari, and Ayan Roy Chowdhury of the Anushilani team scored goals, while Jhantu Prasad and Debashish Chandra’s shots were blocked by the Oil India team’s goalkeeper, Avinash Meche.
